Amanda talks about the inspiration for the various tracks:
All The Way To Chino : This tune was inspired while I was travelling around Los Angles and did my one day jazz workshop hosted by jazz pianist, Tamir Hendelman. I then was watching a lot of piano trio gigs and I was inspired by the music. Having to stay at Chino which was around an hour drive from LA, I was hearing the melody and made this tune to be called ‘All The Way To Chino’.
Santa Monica's Night : At that time when I was writing this tune, I was listening a lot of tunes by Aaron Parks. This tune was inspired while I was listening a lot of his music while calming myself in a peaceful and a quiet night at Santa Monica.
The First Time : This tune talks about that excitement feeling I got as a first timer travelling solo at New York City in a cold and snowy winter. That feeling of falling in love at the first time with the city.
Reminiscence : I wrote this tune before I was performing in Jakarta, Indonesia during new year. I was reminiscing all the years leaving my home city, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. This tune was inspired by the Robert Glasper trio project, live at the Capitol.
Midnight Jam : This tune was written at the time when I was studying jazz composition at Berklee College online. One of the assignments was writing a tune with a bridge in the middle. I always love the straight ahead swing feel. This is a happy tune which I wrote as a simple standard to jam anytime with people.
Belleza : I wrote this tune as a project when I was playing with bass player, Christopher Hale. He was into African, latin rhythm and it was a great pleasure to get mentored by him while writing this tune. This tune is dedicate for my Brazilian friend who has a great and loving heart who I first met in college.
Revisit : This was my latest tune which I was written when I was scrolling through some of my previous voice memo recordings. I discovered that I have sung the same melody a while back but have not got a chance to make this into a tune. The 7/4 section was a fun section to play over while playing the melody as well as improvising.
